We are celebrating another year of excellent academic performance and personalised care and we look forward to meeting our future students.

In 2016, students at Soham again achieved well above national averages. For example, 68% of students achieved 5 or more higher grades including English and maths, well above the 2015 national average of 56%. A*-A and A*-C percentages across the school were well above national averages including in the core subjects of English, maths and science.

The government’s new measure, Progress 8, designed to measure students’ progress over their entire time in the school across a range of subjects confirmed in 2015 that progress at Soham by students of all abilities was well above national averages. The 2016 results indicate that even more progress has been made.

Key points from our lastest Ofsted report include:

  • Soham Village College is described as a ‘continuously improving academy’ with leaders and governors who are ‘highly committed’.
  • ‘Most students, including the most able, make good progress in their learning by the end of Key Stage 4’.
  • 'Good systems for tracking and monitoring the progress of students in Key Stage 4 have allowed the academy to identify accurately specific areas of development across all subject areas. This has resulted in effective intervention and improvements in most subjects to the quality of teaching, so that progress made by students in these subjects is consistently good’.
  • ‘Attainment and progress in English and science at Key Stage 4 have been well above average over the past three years and continue to be major strengths of the school’.
  • ‘Many teachers plan activities and tasks very well using information about students’ prior learning, to ensure students are well challenged and able to make progress quickly from their starting points’.
  • Inspectors found that systems to promote good behaviour and the safety and welfare of students ‘are exemplary’. ‘Low-level disruption in lessons is very rare’.
  • Relationships between staff and students ‘are exceptional and promote positive attitudes to learning’.
  • ‘Students’ attitudes to learning are highly positive... They collaborate well in order to exchange ideas, to extend their knowledge and support each other’s learning’.
  • ‘Bullying and racial incidents are extremely rare…the academy deals with any reported incidents both quickly and effectively’.
